What is Ulcerative colitis?

Ulcerative colitis is the inflammation of the mucosa layer of the large intestine.

Inflammation is most often seen in the rectum or lower regions of the large intestine.

It is most commonly seen in those aged 20-40 years old and in those with a family history of ulcerative colitis. 

Symptoms include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhoea
  • Bloody stools
  • Increased urgency and frequency
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Fatigue
